Wine Gift Baskets

Ranging from the simplest to the most lavish and expensive, there are wine gift baskets for every wine lover out there!

wine gift baskets

The first step in choosing or creating a Wine Gift Basket is to determine what Specific Wine or wines the gift recipient loves best. If you don't know, try to subtly find out. If they don't especially lean toward any special brand, at least determine what type in general they like, and then purchase the best you can afford. The wine or wines should be the star(s) of the basket. If you need help, be sure to ask someone who knows wine. Don't forget about champagnes either!

The next step is to determine the rest of the contents of the basket. Here you want to consider a Sub-theme. Here are some of our favorite sub themes:

Wine and Food - Maybe you want your gift to be all about the experience of wine and food in the wine country. Think Napa. Think about the types of things your gift recipient likes to eat with their wine. Some of the most popular items are gourmet cheese and crackers, chocolates, cookies, nuts, olives, pates and other gourmet spreads.

A variation on the Wine and Food sub theme is the Wine and Cooking basket. These baskets would include things like pastas and sauces, colanders, serving ladles, etc. Keep in mind that the recipient should love to cook or this wine gift may not be appreciated (unless you offer to do the cooking however, which can also be an excellent part of the gift - put in a little gift certificate that says you will be the chef for the meal). Other cooking type wine gift baskets might include baking mixes with utensils and molds, Spanish paella ingredients with skillet, grilling items like gourmet sauces, rubs and added utensils.

Yet another sub theme is theWine Spa Basket. Items to include in this basket could be lotions, bath salts, shower gel, etc. You could also add towels and pampering items like loofahs and slippers.

How about a special Wine Gift Basket for the New Parents? Include things like a picture frame or baby album, but also add items for them like gift cards to a favorite restaurant (or their favorite place to get carry out) and movie rental gift cards.

Wine Gift Baskets can really be themed for almost any occasion, and they also make excellent business gift baskets. Here are some other ideas for additional items to add to your baskets: wine stoppers (there are many really beautiful ones out there, many of which are pieces of artwork in themselves), wine or champagne glasses, wine openers, candles, carafes, wine bags, wine cellar signs (if they have a cellar!), wine coasters, cutting boards (they come in wine bottle shapes even) or a wine book that talk about what wines to pair with what foods.

Now, what basket or container will you use to fit your wines and other items in? Keep in mind, it does not have to be a basket. For example, you might even use a wine rack as the container and use the wine slots not only for the wines, but for a unique presentation of all the other items as well. Once wrapped up in heavy duty cellophane or shrink wrap, everything should be secure.

If you decide to use a basket, make sure it is worthy of it's contents. You don't necessarily need to spend a lot, but do be sure that it is sturdy and beautiful. Try to color coordinate if possible. Look also at metal containers, trays and wine or champagne buckets as container possibilities. Add some ribbons, bows and embellishments and you now have the perfect wine gift!
