Try to come up with some things that would really mean something special to that person or that couple. For example, someone who collects plates may think that a personalized gold plate is the best gift ever!

If you cannot afford items that are completely made of gold, look for items trimmed in gold or have gold leaf on them. And don't feel as if you HAVE to give something made of gold.

Obviously, this depends a lot on your budget, but if you can do it, what better way to celebrate 50 years of marriage? Send them off to somewhere they've always wanted to go and never have. Are they big travelers normally? Then bump it up to a level they haven't experienced before - first class tickets, a suite instead of a regular room, a cruise instead of a week in Florida, Europe instead of the US. You get the idea.

If you can't afford this, how about a scaled down version? A fancy Night out with Dinner and a Play. Tickets to a Musical. A 3 Day Cruise instead of a week long one. The idea is to present them with something they would not ordinarily receive as a gift, that makes them feel special, and makes their 50th anniversary one they won't ever forget.
